…We’ve had a relationship that isn’t bad. I sometimes think you ask me for too much money, but you do deliver a good service overall, and it’s dependable. I’ve worked at an ISP before, and I know how hard that really is, you must have a team that care about your network very much. These extra packets you’re putting in my torrents have to stop. It’s not like the time I put ice cream in the freezer, and found that it was all gone when I wanted to eat it. It’s not like the time I was pushed and fell down the stairs. It’s like the time I went to mexico, drank too much tequila and woke up with a spatula in my ass. It’s exactly the same. I wasn’t looking for a minute there, and then I had something awkwardly jammed into a spot that it does not belong. In mexico, there was a friendly local with a strong grip to help me out (Thanks Pedro). With you Comcast, there’s a router running DD-WRT. Turns out you can do all sorts of clever things with Linux, like pull a proverbial spatula out of your torrent’s ass.

If you were wanting to build wireshark on your shiny new install of Leopard, so that you can sniff the packets going to stumbleupon.com for example, you would find that macports won’t do it. The tiff library won’t compile on Leopard.

A little searching has an even better solution:

http://www.christian-hornung.de/ a version of wireshark that has ben compiled using the gtk-quartz libs, you don’t need X11 installed to use this.

Nicely done.

I thought Pokemon where a pre-teen fad a decade ago. I had always looked at it as some random Japanese crap that relied on marketing for sales, and that it had all finished more than five years ago.

Well that’s not the case, as I now find that I am having to read about the rules and purchase cards at the grocery store for a jolly good round of Pokemon. egh. This is what happens when you put your kids in the public education system. This is what they really learn.

How did that stupid fad survive? It’s the equivelant of having tickle me Elmo pop up again, except as a TV show. I’m sure some kids would argue with me, but yest: Pokemon is stupid. If you find Pokemon even remotely interesting you need to switch to some good old fashioned D&D, or even Magic cards.

On the same topic, it seems that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have also made a ruturn.

I would like to point out that the new TMNT is actuallyway cooler that what I had when I was a kid, and that’s a rub too.

As a project, I would like to write a script to go to all of the porn pages in stumbleupon and save the contents to my hard drive. It looks like the stumbler api has been decoded by several different people. In fact there is a huge list of stumble addons (list your stumbles in your wordpress blog for example) listed here http://thlayli.detrave.net/stumbleupon.html . Another fellow has hacked an HTML interface version of the the stumble bar here http://su.is.dreaming.org/ (might be handy from an iPhone).

1. Start writing on a regular basis.

I’ve never been very good at writing without any explicit motivation, but I’ve gotten old enough to learn that I wish I would. Like everyone else, I have a lot of odd ideas floating around in my head, and should make a point about sharing that stuff.

2. Get a Job.

It’s been a month or two since I’ve gone to work. One of the benefits of working on contract jobs is that you get a little down time between them. Well it’s about time for something new, and I want to go back to full time work again. I need to find a good position coding some ruby and running data center networks. Fortunately for me, I’m reasonably skilled, and it’s not to hard to find something to earn a few bucks if I need an income.

3. Build streaming media server for the house.

For a few years now I’ve had the pleasure of running XBox Media Center on my old fashioned XBox 1. I put a 250GB drive in there and keep dozens of movies ready to go. Upgrade time has come, I’ve got a new Xbox 360 now, and while it doesn’t have anything as cool as XBMC, it does have the ability to read a uPNP media share, and play movies that way. So it’s time to setup the NAS to do Xbox 360 compatible media streaming, convert all my video to H.264 (360 can’t read divx), and get both the old Xbox to use uPNP and the new 360.

4. Programming.

I sell myself as a professional programmer, but I’d always like to know more. High on my list are learning to program micro controllers, and knowing more about Ruby on Rails.
