Things to do
1. Start writing on a regular basis.
I’ve never been very good at writing without any explicit motivation, but I’ve gotten old enough to learn that I wish I would. Like everyone else, I have a lot of odd ideas floating around in my head, and should make a point about sharing that stuff.
2. Get a Job.
It’s been a month or two since I’ve gone to work. One of the benefits of working on contract jobs is that you get a little down time between them. Well it’s about time for something new, and I want to go back to full time work again. I need to find a good position coding some ruby and running data center networks. Fortunately for me, I’m reasonably skilled, and it’s not to hard to find something to earn a few bucks if I need an income.
3. Build streaming media server for the house.
For a few years now I’ve had the pleasure of running XBox Media Center on my old fashioned XBox 1. I put a 250GB drive in there and keep dozens of movies ready to go. Upgrade time has come, I’ve got a new Xbox 360 now, and while it doesn’t have anything as cool as XBMC, it does have the ability to read a uPNP media share, and play movies that way. So it’s time to setup the NAS to do Xbox 360 compatible media streaming, convert all my video to H.264 (360 can’t read divx), and get both the old Xbox to use uPNP and the new 360.
4. Programming.
I sell myself as a professional programmer, but I’d always like to know more. High on my list are learning to program micro controllers, and knowing more about Ruby on Rails.
